Terms of Use

Last updated: 19 August 2026

1. Acceptance of these Terms

These Terms of Use ("Terms") are an agreement between you and Engage Digital Projects Ltd ("NutriGoal Check", "we", "us") governing your use of the NutriGoal Check iOS app and related services (the "Service"). By downloading or using NutriGoal Check you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. The Service

NutriGoal Check lets you photograph a food's nutrition label. An AI model reads the values and ingredient text printed on the label, and NutriGoal Check rates the product against the nutrient goals you set, producing a simple yes/no verdict with reasons. Optional features include AI-generated insights, product comparison, and coaching guidance based on your scan history.

Ratings are derived from the label text the AI is able to read. They may be incomplete or inaccurate if a photo is blurry, a label is unclear, damaged, or unreadable, or the AI misreads a value. Each scan evaluates a single product: all photos submitted in one scan are combined into one reading, so images that show more than one product, or photos of different products in the same scan, may produce an unreliable or blended reading. Always verify against the physical label. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service, in whole or in part, at any time.

3. Not medical or dietary advice, and what we are not responsible for

NutriGoal Check is an informational convenience tool. It is not medical, dietary, nutritional, or allergen advice, and it is not a substitute for professional guidance. Do not rely on NutriGoal Check for health-critical or allergen-critical decisions — including managing allergies, diabetes, or any medical condition. Always check the actual product packaging and consult a qualified healthcare or nutrition professional where appropriate.

How ingredient checks work, and their limits. Goals such as Gluten Free, Dairy Free, Vegan, Vegetarian, No Seed Oils, No Artificial Sweeteners, and No Added Sugar are assessed wholly or partly by reading the ingredient text printed on the label you photograph. If that text is incomplete, unclear, or uses a name we do not recognise, the Service may report that an ingredient is absent when it is in fact present. Do not rely on these results where being wrong matters to you, including allergies, intolerances, coeliac disease, and religious or ethical dietary requirements.

Errors can occur at any stage, and checking remains your responsibility. The Service depends on the photograph you take, on automated recognition of the text in it, and on automated interpretation of what that text means. Any of these can fail. Part of a label may fall outside the frame, be obscured, creased, blurred, or otherwise unreadable; text may be recognised incorrectly; and a value or ingredient may be missed, misread, or misunderstood. To the fullest extent permitted by law, and subject to section 11 below, we do not accept responsibility for any decision you make on the basis of a reading, rating, or insight. It remains your responsibility to check the product packaging yourself, and to consult a doctor, pharmacist, or other qualified professional where a food choice matters to your health.

4. No account needed

NutriGoal Check has no sign-up and no login. You use it straight away, and your scans and goals stay on your device and in your own private iCloud. You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. The product-list email is not currently open for sign-up. If you contact support from the app, an email address is optional because we can show our reply to you in the app; on the contact form on this website an email address is required, because it is the only way we could reach you. Both forms have an optional name field, and the in-app form also attaches your app version, build, device model, and OS version so we can reproduce what went wrong. The Privacy Policy sets out what each of those is used for.

5. NutriGoal Check Premium subscriptions

NutriGoal Check offers an optional auto-renewing subscription, NutriGoal Check Premium, at $9.99 per month or $59.99 per year (or the local equivalent shown at purchase). Both plans include a 7-day free trial for eligible new subscribers.

  • All purchases are made through Apple's App Store and billed to your Apple Account. We never see or store your payment card details.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the current period ends. A free trial converts to a paid subscription unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the trial ends.
  • You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in your device Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
  • Refund requests are handled by Apple through the App Store under Apple's policies; we do not process refunds directly.
  • Prices may change; any change applies only to subsequent billing periods and Apple will notify you in advance as required.

Fair use

NutriGoal Check Premium raises your allowance to 100 scans a day, which is designed for reasonable personal use so every subscriber gets a fast, reliable experience. It is subject to a fair use policy: automated, bulk, or abnormally excessive use (well beyond typical personal use) may be rate-limited or, in serious cases, suspended. This protects the Service for everyone and keeps it sustainable to run.

6. Free tier

Without Premium, NutriGoal Check includes a free allowance of 3 scans per day, which refreshes at midnight UTC (the app shows the reset in your own local time). We may adjust free-tier limits from time to time. Limits that protect the Service from abuse and from runaway cost apply to both tiers, not only to Premium: every caller is limited in how many requests one network address can send in a short window, and a service-wide daily ceiling on scans applies to everyone. Free scanning also draws on a shared daily spending budget for the AI processing pipeline, so on a heavy day free scanning can occasionally be paused before you have used your 3 scans. When that happens, scanning becomes available again as the limits reset.

7. Your content

You retain ownership of the photos you capture. By submitting a photo for scanning, you grant us the limited right to transmit and process it (including via our third-party AI provider) solely to provide the Service — reading the label and returning the result to your device. Label photos are processed transiently and are not retained on our servers after processing, and are not used to train AI models. Your scan history and preferences are stored on your device and in your own private iCloud (see the Privacy Policy).

8. Third-party food database (Open Food Facts)

Some features of NutriGoal Check may display reference information sourced from Open Food Facts, a collaborative, crowdsourced food products database. Where shown, that information is clearly marked as coming from Open Food Facts. To provide these features, your device looks products up in Open Food Facts directly, by their barcode or by the words you type when you search for a product. Those requests do not pass through us, so Open Food Facts receives your device's IP address; we send them nothing else about you. Separately, we keep a reference catalog of non-personal product information, such as nutrition facts and product names. That catalog holds no information about you.

  • Open Food Facts data is made available under the Open Database License (ODbL) and the Database Contents License 1.0; product images are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike. Authorship is attributed to Open Food Facts and its contributors, with links back to openfoodfacts.org or the relevant product page.
  • The data is crowdsourced and provided as-is: Open Food Facts does not guarantee its accuracy, and entries can be incomplete, outdated (for example after a product reformulation), or contain errors. It must not be used for medical purposes.
  • Any reference information or estimate NutriGoal Check derives from Open Food Facts data is supplementary only. It is not a verdict about the product in your hand. Always check the actual packaging, and use the label scan for an accurate result.
  • Product names, brands, and packaging shown within database results may be protected by trademark or copyright belonging to their respective owners; those rights are not covered by the licenses above.

9. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • submit content that is unlawful, or that you do not have the right to submit;
  • attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Service, other users' data, or our systems, or to probe or circumvent security or rate-limiting measures;
  • access the Service by automated means, scrape it, or use it to build a competing dataset or service;
  • reverse-engineer, decompile, or modify the app except where permitted by law;
  • misuse the AI pipeline, including attempting to make it process content other than food labels at scale.

10. Disclaimer of warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that label readings, ratings, insights, or third-party database information will be accurate, complete, or uninterrupted.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for decisions made in reliance on a rating, reading, or insight. Our aggregate liability for any claim arising out of these Terms shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim (or $50 if you have paid nothing). Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be excluded by law, and nothing removes mandatory consumer rights under the law of your country of residence.

12. Indemnification

If you use the Service in violation of these Terms, including the Acceptable use rules in section 9, and that misuse leads a third party to bring a claim against us, you agree to indemnify us: you will cover the losses, damages, and reasonable legal costs we incur from that claim, to the extent they were caused by your misuse. This obligation does not apply to ordinary, lawful use of the Service, does not apply to the extent a claim results from our own breach of these Terms or our negligence, and does not limit any mandatory consumer rights you have under the law of your country of residence.

13. Termination

You may stop using NutriGoal Check at any time. Because there is no account, deleting the app removes the copy of your data held on that device. It does not remove the copy held in your own private iCloud, nor the random device identifier, which is why a reinstall picks up where you left off; the Privacy Policy sets out what survives and how to remove it. If you subscribed to the product list, you can unsubscribe from any email at any time: we stop emailing you, and your sign-up record, including your email address, is kept and marked unsubscribed rather than deleted, so that the unsubscribe is honoured. The Privacy Policy lists everything that record holds. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms, engage in fraudulent or abusive activity, or where required by law. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including 3, 10, 11, 12, and 14) survive.

14. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Before commencing formal proceedings, you agree to first contact us (see Contact below) and allow us 30 days to resolve the dispute informally. Nothing in this section removes or limits any mandatory legal rights you have as a consumer under the law of your country of residence.

15. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date above. For material changes we will also post a prominent notice on this page, and where we already have a way to reach you, such as an email address you gave us for the product list or when you contacted support, we will tell you directly. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
